If you’ve stuck around TD:IYB long enough, you’d have noticed that I showcased a couple of youtube videos. Namely those below!
Hello Windows
Conbini
What I may not have mentioned though, aside from how inherently awesome these songs are, is that they’re both written and composed by Halyosy.
Halyosy, from what I’ve gathered, is a male Japanese composer and singer who has been penning songs for Hatsune Miku recently. His song “Melt” (youtube video behind the cut) is one of the most popular Original Compositions for Miku at the moment and has been covered by people all over the world. Just do a search and you’ll find covers by girls from Hong Kong, Taiwan, an emo English version from a band in the US - it’s a virtual phenomenon itself.
Besides his l33t song-writing and composing skills, Halyosy-san sings really well. I have a penchant for voices like his, and hearing him sing makes my hair stand on end. Personally, I feel that his voice is a whole lot more suited for his songs and he really should stop using Miku. XDDDDD
Probably one of the main reasons why I find his songs more listenable and ear-worm worthy than other Miku-Originals out there is the uncanny ability of his to invoke feelings of loss, melancholy, sadness and a little bit of hope. His lyrics are often bitter-sweet, and for the large part, simple enough to understand even without a large Japanese vocabulary (at least, in my opinion).
Again, using Miku as a base for his musical creations (he almost always composes with Miku first, then sings a version himself - the exception thus far being Hello Windows, but that’s just the Windows Corruption Effect), the focus is on his music and his lyrics, nothing else. Probably creativity at its most pure level?
I’m a sucker for songs like the ones Halyosy-san writes: they range from whimsical (Conbini, which wtf, is the best song on earth really), to eerily beautiful (Hello Windows - now who on earth would compose a song with a sample from the Windows chime?!!!), to plain gut-wrenching moving (Melt - it’s your number 1 unrequited love song). He’s truly a talent, and I’m glad that there’s the internet and Miku of course, that allows us to have a listen and look-see at some really gifted people who otherwise, might not see the light of day.
Two more songs behind the cut!
Melt feat Halyosy
Sakura no Ame (Cherry Blossom Rain)

Sakura no Ame… One of my most favourite Miku songs ^^, and using Byousoku 5cm scenes for a video makes it even better. Melt is also another awesome song (it’s still up on the ranking charts week after week lol).
Another great Vocaloid Miku composer that comes to mind would be doriko, http://doriko.oops.jp/ . Should give “Uta ni Katachi wa nai Keredo” (no.1 Favourite ^^) and “Yuuhizaka” a listen. I’m sure you’ll love it since you also enjoy songs with lots of emotions. And if you do also like those cute and catchy songs, try OSTER Project’s Chocolate☆Magic and RINGxRINGxRING.
My heart melted when I listened to Sakura no Ame. (:
Thanks for the recommendation!
Melt isn’t created by halyosy, it was by Ryo. halyosy simply did a male cover for it.
@Random: Ah, okay! Thanks for the info? If possible, could I have a link for the info? :DD So I could credit the source.
