[review] It’s a trap!! : Guilty Gear XX’s Bridget comes out
May 10, 2008 by Soshi
“N-no peeking!” yelps Bridget as the photographer swings around for a back shot. “I didn’t agree to this!” he protests as the photographer tries to coax the infamous pantsu-shot out of the shy boy.
“What kind of magazine is this anyway? I’m a boy, y’know!” he continues, blushing furiously as his hands try to assert whatever modesty he can. The photographer ignores him and snaps away. Sadly, she’s only given the opportunity to capture Bridget’s hands.
「ずるい~」 the photographer finally responds, “Our readers want some exciting shots! We can’t sell our magazine if you’re so stiff, Bridget-san!” The photographer catches a perfect shot as Bridget turns around to face her.
“R-really? Um, I’ll try to relax then…” he murmurs.
“Great! Maybe if you think of… your happiest memory?” the photographer suggests.
Bridget’s kinda unhappy about his face-up
Max Factory’s Bridget is one of those figures who sort of disappoints you after you get him. He doesn’t exactly live up to the prototype you were shown when you lusted for his trap-body in the catalog but in most other instances, he looks stunning.
The main point in question would be his eyes: as compared to the original prototype Max Factory enticed us with, Bridget’s eyes now, are comparatively more dull and lifeless. It probably has to do with the solid coloring of his eyes vs the gradiented one we first saw.
Up-close, it’s also obvious that a little more work could’ve been done for his hair. Streamlining the strands and making them a little sharper would’ve made Bridget look better. Plus, the solid yellow could have been shaded to produce a more voluminous effect.
Yes, I expect nothing but the best for Bridget!
In any case, Bridget is an well-made figure. It’s really a given considering his price (if it’s around the same price range as ALTER’s Alice, I demand similar quality!) and the fact that it’s really, a simple figure. The post is almost bordering on boring - except that with such a slight lean and bending of a leg, it spruces up Bridget and induces him to look fluid.
I seem to have a thing for buying figures that have movement lately.
The included handcuff also adds a certain pizazz to an otherwise stoic Bridget. It makes him look rather badass, even with that “omgwtfdon’ttouchme” look on his face. You really wouldn’t want to touch him, unless you’d like a huge handcuff to your face.
Mmm, this is the frozen moment I’ve been talking about. It’s like a tableaux . Max Factory did a good job in creating the idea that Bridget is just turning around - he hasn’t finished turning and is in mid-action - through the wonderful folds of his headpiece.
(I really keep on wanting to type “her”, but backspace is my best friend.)
Look at how the cloth sweeps across the photo! Beautiful ain’t it!
The colours used are primarily blue and yellow, with pearlescent versions of the color (okay, it’s gold) used to brighten the figure up. Under normal lighting, Bridget’s colours look kind of dull - but place him under the sun or stronger lights, and the colours will start shimmering ever so slightly. Enough to catch your eye but not too overpowering.
Look! Almost pantsu-shot!
It’s a little hard to photograph Bridget because certain angles make his face look awful (deleted those muahaha). And from other angles, his face isn’t visible at all. It’s definitely a challenge to capture him on film.
The little details like the gold crosses peppered around him are delightful. They catch the light very easily and they make the figure look a whole lot more glamorous and expensive than what it actually is (which is: expensive).
It’s awesome that Max Factory decided that the crosses would be accessories and attached onto the cuffs and head-piece and making them rather solid 3D pieces rather than simply painting them on or creating them from flimsy pieces of plastic.
Overall, Bridget is a solid piece. However, it’s only justifiable to purchase him if you’re a fan of Bridget and Guilty Gear, like traps, or have cash to spare. He’s definitely not a must-have, but would definitely be a fun piece to add to your collection.
I for one, like Bridget a whole bunch and it’s funny to have people go “oh what a sweet nun” and then let them know that hey, it’s a boy. XD
